The Rev. Robert L. Bowman, 85, of Jerseyville, died 5:26 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Willow Rose Rehab and Health Care Center in Jerseyville. He was born Oct. 20, 1925, at Rockbridge, the middle child of seven to Carl F. Sr. and Viola (Loy) Bowman. He met the love of his life Aug. 18, 1940, Maxine Hazelwood, and they were married Oct. 27, 1945, at Alton. She went to be with the Lord Dec. 13, 2005, shortly after they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by one daughter, Roberta McAdams of Delhi; one son, Larry (Diane) Bowman of Jerseyville; six grandchildren, Donald (Cynthia) McAdams Jr., Melody (Troy) Kelley, Robert (Peggy), David (Shannon) and Joshua (Stevie) McAdams and Michelle (Dave) Jack; four great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Grace, Michael and Kedrin McAdams, and one on the way; two sisters, Frances (Bill) Pope of Medora and Marcile (Howard) Clayton of Vermont, Ill.; and two brothers, Harold (Shirley) Bowman of Medora and Melvin (Virginia) Bowman of Medora. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son-in-law, Donald McAdams Sr.; and two brothers, Carl F. Bowman Jr. and James L. Bowman.
Mr. Bowman lived in Jersey County most of his life and was employed by Jersey County Motor, Isringhausen Implement and Hargrave International before entering the ministry in 1975. He and his wife then moved to Glasgow, where he served as pastor of the Baptist Church for seven years and then to Franklin, where they both served for six years. He also worked at J.C. Penney in Jacksonville during this time.
Services were entrusted to Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home of Jerseyville, Illinois.
