He was a blacksmith by trade and a deacon in the church at Dedham; m. first, 21 Sept., 1673, MARY LANE2, b. 1652, dau. of Job1 and Sarah (Boyce) Lane, d. 11 Oct., 1681, ae. 29 years, her broken tombstone still standing in Dedham.

Dea. William Avery m. second, 29 Aug., 1682, ELIZABETH WHITE who had five children and d. 3 Oct., 1690; m. third, 25 Aug., 1698, MEHITABLE, widow of Samuel WORDEN and dau. of Gov. Thomas Hinckley by whom he had no children.
