A. D. Gray
Alva D. Gray, 65, of Dunbar, died unexpectedly this morning in Connellsville State General Hospital.
He was born Nov. 9, 1897, in Dunbar, a son of the late John W. and Margaret Shaffer Gray. He was a member of Franklin Memorial Methodist Church and the Dunbar Lions Club. He was a retired rural mail carrier, who served in Dunbar, R.D. 1, retiring in 1954 after 33 years of service. He was a World War One veteran, serving in Company D, 110th Infantry, and formerly was a member of the drum and bugle corps of Lafayette Post 51, American Legion of Uniontown.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Nellie Jobes Gray; two brothers, Harry M. of Altoona and Robert of Connellsville, and a sister, Mrs. William Burkett of South Fork.
The body will be at the Burhans funeral home at Dunbar after 11 a.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held there at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Ellsworth Crispens officiating. Burial will be in Green Ridge Memorial Park, with military rites at the graveside by Hughes Post No. 146, American Legion, of Dunbar.
