Robert Alms, age 89, of Uniontown, Fayette County, Pa., passed away Friday, February 3, 2006, in the Cherry Tree Nursing Center, Uniontown, Pa. He was born February 2, 1917, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of Harry Alms and Laura McKelvey Alms.
He graduated from the now former South Union High School, Fayette County, Pa., Class of 1935. Robert served as an engineer in the United States Air Force during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He earned his wings at Bergstone Fields, Texas. He was a Crew Chief on C-46 and C-47 Troop Carriers, 22nd Troop Carrier Squadron. He earned five Battle Stars. Robert was formerly employed by the Hagan Ice Cream Company in Uniontown for 35 years. Robert was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he was an usher, and was also a member of Local Teamsters No. 491 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 47.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Emma Adams Alms, and a brother, Ned. Robert is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa. where friends will be received on Sunday, February 5, from Noon until 4 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, February 6, in the ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Dunbar Street, Uniontown, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of his life at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Brown officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Uniontown V.F.W. Post 47 at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
