Bob Allen was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on 17 January 1921. He was the only child of Roy James Allen and Alice Major Purcell. He was named for his grand uncle, Henry Robert Armstrong.
Except for a couple of years the family lived in Frankfort, Michigan, Bob was raised in Green Bay. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1939. He attended college for a year after high school and before the War intervened. Bob enlisted in the Army Air Force in November of 1942. He served with an Air/Sea Rescue unit during WWII, mostly off New Guinea.
He returned to Green Bay when the war ended and eventually met Ardell Peterson during the summer of 1946. They were married in Escanaba, Michigan on 26 July 1947 and made Escanaba their home. Bob and Ardell had two children, Daniel Robert and Deborah Jean. Bob was originally employed at Northern Motors Rebuilders as a truck driver. He then took a driving job with Clairmont Transfer. He worked there over 30 years and logged well over 2,000,000 miles. He also logged over 1,000,000 miles without an accident until a mishap with a train at a fogged in crossing.
Like most people from Green Bay, Bob was passionate about the Green Bay packers. While in high school, he and his classmates would scrimmage with the Packers after their practice sessions. They all had the fortune to play football with the likes of Johnny Blood McNally and Don Hutson.
After Ardell died in March of 1995, Bob sold his house and moved to Colorado. He died from complications due to lung surgery 5 months later.
