The family lived in a number of locations: Hillsdale, MI, Oakfield, NY, Albion, MI, Coldwater, MI, Walker, MI, Ionia, MI, and in 1892 bought a home in Alto, Kent, MI. In Alto, Kent, MI they joined the Baptist church (which had been organized by Lewis' sister Maria Jane (Warner) Sears and her husband Horace Sears and others), and lived there until, in failing health, they spent their last years with their daughter Mary Evelyn and her husband Earl Curtiss.

Lewis Cass was the director of a school in Hillsdale, Hillsdale, MI, where he met and then married Rose Anna Harris, the teacher at the school, on February 20, 1856.

WARNER Lineage: Lewis-7 Cass Warner, David-6 Calvin Warner Jr., David-5 Calvin Warner Sr., Jesse-4 Warner Sr., Samuel-3 Warner Sr., Daniel-2 Warner Sr., Andrew-1 WARNER Sr., an Englishman who set sail with his wife and several children on the ship "Lyon" from Bristol, England on 8/23/1631 and landed 11/2/1631 at Nantasket, MA; and later completed the journey on 1/7/1632-33 to the newly established (1630) Massachusetts Bay Colony.
