Samuel Carroll Miller, Jr., 84, of Bethany Village, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2004.
Mr. Miller was born in Mechanicsburg, PA on October 25, 1919, and was the son of the late Samuel Carroll and C. Marie (Strominger) Miller.
He was retired as a teacher from Harrisburg School District and taught at Edison Junior High School for 27 years.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane (Watkins) Miller; 2 sons and 2 daughters, Samuel Carroll Miller III of Alexandria, VA, John Reginald Miller, Linda Mae Wagner and Debra Marie Latsha of Lewisberry; 4 grandchildren, Allison Lynn Wagner, Adrienne Lee Wagner, Emily Marie Miller and Lance Evan Miller and a brother-in-law, John R. Watkins.
He was a graduate of Dickinson College, a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and received his Masters Degree from Bucknell University. He was a member of Robert Burns Lodge 464, the Harrisburg Consistory and the Zembo Shrine since 1941. He was also a member of the Zembo Luncheon Club. He was a member of the Washingtonburg Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member of the National Society of Magna Carta Barons. He was a descendant of Robert Pyle, a Quaker who emigrated from England in 1683 and who was a Representative from Chester County to the Pennsylvania Provisional Assembly between 1688 and 1705. He was a member of the Voters Hall of Fame in recognition of voting every year for at least 50 consecutive years. He was in the Navy during World War II. He enjoyed bowling and tennis and had a life long interest in genealogy since the age of 13.
Services are at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Central PA, 3544 N. Progress Avenue, Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
Arrangements are entrusted to Myers Funeral Home of Mechanicsburg.
