Russell B. Christman, 83, of Susquehanna Twp., formerly of Lehighton, died Friday in the Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Paxton Twp.
He retired as a government and music teacher from the former John Harris High School and was a former Lehighton schoolteacher; a graduate of Pasadena (Calif.) Junior College, Ernest Williams School of Music and New York University; a recipient of the Valley Forge Freedom Foundation Medal for Teaching Excellence; an Army veteran of World War II; a past president of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association; a member of Pine Street Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, and Beta Epsilon Chapter of the Sinfonia Fraternity of America; and a former member of Euclid F&AM Lodge and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Ranck Christman; a daughter, Doris E. of Middletown; a son, John D. of Washington, D.C.; a stepson, Robert R. Miller of Harrisburg; and a sister, Grace Shoenberger of Topeka, Kan.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Lehighton Cemetery.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Hetrick Funeral Home, Susquehanna Twp., is handling arrangements.
