Thumper was a stray puppy that was found at a friend's sisters house. They said she just showed up one day and that they couldn't keep her.
She was a very tame, very loving puppy so we thought we would go ahead and take her home so Simon (our Dalmatian) would have a friend.
She was the strangest looking dog, mainly due to the fact that she was half Rottweiler and 1/2 Dachshund. She didn't stand very high but she was extremely long, like a wiener dog, yet she was stalky like a Rottweiler with the same markings and color. She was a teeny little thing fully grown and yet if you heard her bark you would swear there was a huge dog on the other side of the door ready to eat you up.
We named her Thumper because when we scratched her belly she would thump her paw against the floor like the rabbit on Bambi.
We immediately found out that even though Thumper was a sweet and loving dog, that she loved to dig holes all over the yard. She realized that with these holes she could gain freedom from the fenced-in yard...there were many times that we found her clear across town at my mother-in-law's house playing with her 3 dogs.
We had to give Thumper away along with our Dalmatian, Simon; we were in the middle of a remodel on the house and adding an extension and the crew ruined our fence. We couldn't keep them in the house and we couldn't let them out by themselves so we gave them to an acquaintance of my husbands.
Thumper spent her last years doing what she loved, running around chasing the neighbors bull and cows in the pastuer.
