James Trousdal Carter was born at Pleasant Hill, MO, April 8, 1853, died December 17, 1920, aged 67 years, 8 months and 9 days. He was married to Harriet L. Arnold of Louisburg, March 2, 1876. To this union were born six children, two preceded him in death; James dying in infancy and Monford, at the age of 26 years. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Harriet Carter, and four children; G. L. and E. C. Carter, Meda Mashburn and Helen Breshears; also one foster child, Lizzie Boren. Besides his immediate family he leaves nineteen grandchildren and four brothers who mourn his sudden death. He was firm believer in the teaching of the scripture although not united with any church.

Funeral services were conducted at the Carter school house by Elder D. W. Low on Saturday, December 18. Afterward the body was laid to rest at the Mission cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
