She married Gerrit Barten Van Heukelom on March 2, 1850 in Ede. The couple's first two children, Teunis and Rik died within a week of their birth and were buried in Renkum.
After the death of her husband in 1869, Willemijntje left the Netherlands in 1875 aboard the S.S. P. Caland departing from Rotterdam. She is recorded in the database of Castle Garden as arriving in New York on March 30. Included with her are six children: Teunis, Jan B., Jan, Hanneke, Gerrit and Albert. Her son Rik, age 18, arrived in America one year earlier, on February 19, 1874, aboard the S.S. Maas. The 1880 US Census records the entire family living in Black Oak Township, Mahaska County, Iowa.
