|Birth: ||unknown, Germany|
Christian PFLUEGER was born in Maden, Hesse, Germany about 1750 to Johann Helwig and Catherine (Lengemann)Pflueger. In February 1726 he enlisted in the von Linsingen Grenadier battalion as a drummer. The battalion, with two others, departed Kassel-Wehlheiden in March 1776, and embarked from Bremerlehe, Germany, with the first Hessian division in April 1776 bound for America. Sometime around the beginning of 1777 this battalion was one of four Hessian battalions which were deployed in the New York and New Jersey area. During that year they took part in an expedition into Pennsylvania and were involved in the battles of Bradywine Creek, Germantown, and Redbank. In April 1777 Christian was promoted in rank (probably to what corresponds to our Pfc) and subsequently he deserted his outfit in March 1778.
Christian married Mary Elizabeth Byerly in Lancaster, PA and four children were born to them before they moved to Westmoreland Co., PA where four more children were born. About 1797 Christian again moved his family, this time to Butler Co., PA. Here he farmed and provided for his family until his death.
