Patrick was the first child born into the family of James Joseph Haigh and Donna Quay Bell Haigh. Patrick had two biological siblings, Vanessa Mary Haigh and Marcella Joan Haigh. He also had four other siblings that Donna and Jim had adopted. They are listed below.

"We called Patrick "Huckleberry Finn," because he was adventures and mischievous. He had an impish grin that made you want to hug him. He was a staff reporter on the high school news paper and attended community college after high school. He had gone to Alaska to work on a fishing boat to earn money for school. He had just returned home in July of 1990 and went hiking. We had gone camping and when we returned home, Donna discovered he was missing and contacted police and camp rangers. Search and rescue found his body near Lake Serene on Mt. Index. He had slipped on loose rocks and fell down a ravine." ~ Pearl Faye Bell Smith.

Patrick Haigh's Prayer

(Dated May 13, 1990; found in his diary after his death)

Lord Jesus,
Though I have known your love and grace in the past, I have turned away. Though I accept you as my savior I have sinned and lived in darkness. Lord, you have kept me from sickness and hunger, and I have not thanked you enough.

Jesus, you died on the cross and shed your blood for me. And I did not thank you enough. I have sinned and not repented. Yet, you are still with me.

Thank you Jesus!
I am weak, but with you I can be strong!
Lord, walk with me; be with me every step of the way. Every step.

Jesus, you have shown me that love is the only way. Your love can change the heart, as it did mine.

Lord, in this dark place there is light it is you. Jesus, you can light up the darkness.

Jesus, my prayer to you is that you let me be a light. Let your love shine through me and rub off on those who do not know you.

My heart goes out to those who do not know the hope, love and peace that come from you, Lord Jesus.

Jesus, stay close to me; walk with me. Stop me from walking down some foolish path. Lead me to safe harbor. Shelter me from the storm.

Lord, let me be your faithful servant forever and ever. Amen ~ Patrick Mark Haigh.
