Sergeant Amanda Pinson, 21, was killed in a mortar attack on the base in Tikrit, Iraq on March 16, 2006.
Amanda Pinson, of south St. Louis County, was with the 101st Airborne Division and was based at Fort Campbell, Ky.
She worked as a cryptologist in Iraq, making and breaking codes.
Beloved daughter of Christina Ehlen and Tony and Regina Pinson; beloved sister of Bryan Pinson and of the late Michael and Matthew Pinson; dear granddaughter of Bufford and Patty Nickles, Jimmy and Victoria Pinson and of the late Marlene Pinson; dear great-granddaughter of Alma Nickles; dear niece of Sandy (Rick) Campbell, Debbie (Mark) Ritter, David (Cindy Nickles), Jeff (Tammy) Nickles, Cheryl Kohler, Joyce (Ken) Blank, James Harris and Donna (Michael) Thompson; dear cousin of Jennifer, Stacy, Shaun, Stephanie, Jake, Seth, Kevin, Kyle, Melissa, Andrew, Amanda, Michael and Laura; and special friend of Tara, Amy and countless others.
She was a graduate of Hancock High School and joined the Army in 2002, where she won several scholarships and was on the basketball and softball teams. She planned to attend college after her military service and become an FBI or CIA agent.
On Tuesday, May 31st she was honored by the National Security Agency, the first female soldier to be honored by the agency
