Mrs. Cushing was a retired service representative for New Jersey Bell from Bayonne, New Jersey. She and her husband, Thomas, were married in 1958. Mr. Cushing passed away in 1988. They were the parents of sons Thomas, John and David and daughters Alicia and Pegeen. Mrs. Cushing and her sister=in-law, Jane C. Folger, were on their way to San Francisco for vacation. She was 69 years old.

Folger: Two Bayonne kin die in hijacking crash Two women from Bayonne were among those killed in the crash of the hijacked United Airlines flight 93 on Tuesday. The women, Patricia "Pat" Cushing and Jane C. Folger, were on the Boeing 757 that left Newark airport for San Francisco early Tuesday morning and crashed in a field about 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, around 10 a.m. Folger and Cushing were among the 45 passengers and crew members aboard the ill-fated airplane. Authorities said a struggle erupted on the plane between some of the passengers and the hijackers, leading it to crash into the field in western Pennsylvania. The hijackers might have been targeting the plane for Congress or the White House in Washington, D.C., officials said. Folger and Cushing were sisters-in-law and good friends. "They kind of paired up after they retired, the two of them," said one of Cushing's daughters, Pegeen "Peg" Cushing, of Bayonne. "They were constantly together. They shopped, they traveled." The two had been planning a trip to San Francisco for the last six months. They were excited to go see the City on the Bay. "My wife and I had gone with my kids to San Francisco about five years ago and we raved about it," said one of Folger's sons, Robert. Jane Folger, nee Cushing, was 73 and was a lifelong resident of Bayonne. A mother of six, she was a homemaker, until later in life, when she became a bank officer. She worked at various branches of Summit Bank in Bayonne for 25 years and retired in 1994. It was Folger's warm personality and her work at the bank that made her a well-known person in Bayonne, relatives said. A large number of people showed up at two wakes for Folger on Friday, at G. Keenen O'Brien Funeral Home, Bayonne. "People were lined up around the block," said Robert Folger. "It was unbelievable how many people came." Jane Folger had a passion for New York City. "She went to tours, plays, poetry readings, anything she could get her hands on," added Robert. "She often brought her grandchildren to New York to show them around and to expose them to what New York had to offer." One of the last pictures taken of Folger in New York City was one of her with two grandchildren on top of the World Trade Center. Speaking about the picture now, her son could only say, "It's just so ironic." Mass for Folger was at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Bayonne. Patricia Cushing, nee Gross, was 69 and was born and raised in Baltimore, Md., but came to Bayonne 40 years ago. "She was the sweetest woman you'd ever meet," said Pegeen Cushing. "She was very much into religion and she was a genuinely kind hearted woman." The elder Cushing had five children, and was a service representative at Bell Atlantic for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Women's Club of Bayonne. Mass for Cushing will be at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Henry's Church, Bayonne.
