A FATAL ACCIDENT
Harley Lee Suddenly Killed by Rock Island Train
A sad accident occurred near Tipperary Thursday afternoon, March 27th, which cost the life of Harley Lee, a brakeman on the Rock Island railroad. He was switching a carload of coal, when it jumped the track and crashed into another car, pinning him between the two cars, causing almost instant death.
Harley Lee was born near Woodburn, Iowa, July 18, 1892, and was 28 years, 8 months and 9 days old. He was married to Ethel Mundell in Chariton on May 21, 1912. To them were born two children, Howard and Halcion, who with their mother survive.
For a time they resided in Des Moines, coming to Chariton about four years ago, where he was employed on the Rock Island railroad.
He was a member of the Masonic order and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He and Mrs. Lee united with the Christian church in this city about a year ago, and lived a consistent Christian life. He was a kind husband and father, and an honest and upright young man, and his untimely death is mourned by his family and a large circle of friends.
Funeral services were held from the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. P. Taggart of Des Moines, and interment was made in the Chariton cemetery. The family have the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement.
