John Hunt Oley
Birth: Sep. 24, 1830
Death: Mar. 11, 1888

Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served first in the Civil War as a Private in the 7th New York State Militia. He was then commissioned Colonel and commander of the 8th West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry. Later he was transferred to the cavalry, and served as Colonel and commander of the 7th West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services during the campaigns in West Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley". (bio by: Russ Dodge)
