Beaver Boy's Body Found
Taken From the River By His Own Father This Morning.
Parents Grief Stricken
The body of little George Beaver, Jr., the 5-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Beaver, who fell from a shanty boat at the foot of Union street last night, was recovered this morning at 8:30. The body was brought to the surface at a point just below the ice breakers and within 20 feet of the place where the lad went down. The father and Fred Gobert had been grappling all night long in hopes of recovering the body and were about to give up the quest and resort to dynamite when the strain on the grappling hooks revealed something beneath. The hook was lifted to the surface together with the body of the little boy. When the father saw the body emerging from the water he almost collapsed with grief and since then has been almost inconsolable. During the entire morning he sat on the end of his shanty boat weeping and lamenting over the affair. Little George was a great favorite of the family and nighbors, and his loss is severely felt. George Jr., and a three year-old brother were playing about the rear of the boat when the little chap accidently slipped and fell into the water. He caught a rope with which the boat was tied but was unable to hold on and soon sank out of sight. Mrs. Alice Beaver witnessed the accident, but was so overcome that she was unable to render any aid to the little boy. Even if she had it is very doubtful if her efforts would have been of any avail so quickly did the little fellow sink beneath the waters. The Beaver family was preparing to remove from the shanty boat to a home in Chester and the drowning of the little boy will hasten this action. Little George is survived by his parents and one brother with whom he was playing at the time of the accident. The funeral arrangements have not been completed this afternoon but the services over the little lad will probably be held some time tomorrow.
