Richard Allen Johns, 76, of Batavia and formerly of Aurora passed away August 12, 2007 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. Richard was born May 28, 1931 in St. David, IL the son of Clarence and Lola (nee. Sawyer) Johns. Richard was united in marriage to Janice Plocher on December 16, 1951 in Highland, IL.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following Richards service time he attended and graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in education. Richard was an educator for 35 years in the public schools before retiring in 1991 from District 129 in West Aurora. Richard was an active member of his community and donated his time and resources to Fox Valley Hospice and Delnor Community Hospital as a Volunteer. He was a member of New England Congregational Church in Aurora, where he sang in the Choir, Elgin Choral Union, Masonic Lodge in Roseville, IL, Playmakers, Fox Valley Symphony, Teachers Association, and Golden K.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of Batavia; three children, Jeffrey (Brenda) Johns of Batavia, Diane (Carsten) Fischer Little River, SC and Richard Jr. (Chriss) Johns of Sugar Grove; six grandchildren, Alexandra Johns, Christopher Blake, Carrie Fischer, Scott Johns, Bradley Johns, and Mathew Johns.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Eugene Jr.; and his father-in-law, O.L. Plocher.

Visitation will be held 2-4 P.M. Thursday, August 16, 2007 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave., Batavia IL. At 4:00 P.M. we will proceed to New England Congregational Church, 406 West Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL, where funeral services will begin at 4:30 P.M. Rev. Gary McCann will officiate. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to New England Congregational Church 406 West Galena Blvd. Aurora, IL 60506.
