James Walter Parks, age 81, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009, in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was born in McDowell County, W.Va., on Nov. 25, 1927, to the late Emmit and Mamie Sexton Parks. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Bill Parks and William Carl Parks.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Anna Mae "Ann" Parks; one daughter, Eva Parks, Groseclose; one son, James "Jimmy" Leo Parks and wife Linda, Marion; one granddaughter, Samantha Parris and husband Michael, Woodlawn; three foster children, Shirley Puckett, Wylene Faulcon-Goins and Deron Faulcon; four sisters, Thelma Russell, Galax, Anna Mae Dunavan and husband Dewey, Troutdale, Va., Katherine Ross and husband Ralph, Flatridge, and Edith Russell and husband Joe, Galax; two brothers, E.J. Parks and wife Janette, Flatridge, and Henry Lee Parks and wife Myra, Independence; one sister-in-law, Edna Parks, Grant; 19 nieces and nephews; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 8 p.m. from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion, with the Rev. Bobby Baker officiating. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Rockbridge Cemetery in Troutdale. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
