Ann was the daughter of Cletus Austin Leight and Marjorie Whaley Leight and was the wife of Robert James Ekstrom. She was a philospher, a writer, a searcher, a guide. Her friend Kelly shared these thoughts at her memorial gathering:

When I think of Ann, I think of her thoughtful integrity and her uncompromising, beautifully-wrought realness. A living light has gone out in the world and it is a loss to us all. Yet the gift she has shared is at least as great as the loss. In the years I knew her, Ann shared herself with a dedication and courage equal to the greatest spirits of any time. She broke the glass around the light of her truth and generously exposed her inner radiance to any who had the good fortune of paying appropriate attention. Anyone who does this inspires and feeds the flames of truth in those around them, and so the light in the world has grown brighter and clearer because of Ann's life.
