Birth: Aug. 23, 1861
Death: Mar. 22, 1941

While Louella's name is on this joint marker with her husband, Madison W Charles, she was buried in Kentucky, perhaps because she died 22 years after her husband and the family had moved by that time.
Please see memorial 88291696 for her

Funeral Held For
Mrs. High's Mother

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at the First Methodist Church for Mrs. M. W. Charles, 79 years of age, who died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. L. High, on East Eighteenth Street.

Dr. A. R. Kasey, Dr. J. W. Weldon and the Rev. L. F. Southern, Methodist ministers, officiated, and interment followed at Riverside Cemetery. The pall bearers were her grandsons and nephews.

Mrs. Charles was the daughter of the late James and Jane Johnson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and a direct descendant of Gen. Robert E. Lee. She married June 11, 1885, to the Rev. Mr. Charles of the Tennessee Conference. He preceded her in death 23 years ago, and since that time she has made her home with her daughter.
In Mrs. Charles' connection there were 14 ministers. She was very active in Christian work until a few years ago when she suffered a stroke, and she had been in bad health ever since.

Survivors are her daughter, Mrs. High; three sons, J. M. Charles, San Antonio, Texas; E. L. Charles, Dallas, Texas, and O. H. Charles, Chicago; one brother, A. M. Johnson, Russellville; two sisters, Mrs. A. H. Marlin, Nashville, and Mrs. J. R. Webb, Murfreesboro; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
