Mary Delia was the daughter of Rev. William and Mary Paul (also seen as Dial on Federal Censuses) Sampson.

She married William M. Locklear on Mar. 20, 1901 in Back Swamp in Robeson County, North Carolina. Her paternal uncle, Rev. John H. Sampson presided over their marriage, and her younger brother, Robert Otis Sampson, served as a witness.

William's sister, Annah Locklear, was the second wife of Mary Delia's eldest brother, Everett Sampson.

She died from pneumonia according to her NC death certificate during the Spanish Flu Pandemic.

**NOTE: Following her death, the widowed William Locklear, along with his three living children, Sallie May, Thurman, and Ophelia, were residing in Lumberton, NC when enumerated for the 1920 Federal Census. According to the 1930 Federal Census, Samuel Locklear (1) and Ophelia Locklear (18) were the adopted children of Luther and Pattie Hunt Locklear. Luther was William's nephew, the son of William's sister, Agnes Mariah Locklear.. In 1948, Luther and Pattie founded Locklear and Son Funeral Home in Pembroke, NC.
