Son of Joseph Thomas and Anna Ziaccas Thomas who resided at 107 North Clayton Street, Wilmington, Delaware.

Joseph, who resided in Essex County, New Jersey, served as a Staff Sergeant and Bombardier-Gunner on a B-17 Bomber with the 8th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group, Light, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on February 18, 1942 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was noted as being Single, without dependents.

He was declared "Missing In Action" near Manila during the war.

He had served in the Air Corps for two years and two months at the time of his death and was decorated with the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
