MN death record info at familysearch.org:
Name: Barney Shupe
Death date: 12 Jun 1903
Death place: Staples, Todd, Minnesota
Age: 74
Father's name: David
Mother's name: Mary Jane Strover

No obit in Brainerd newspapers or Staples World.

Not buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.

Not buried in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples (in July 2012, sexton Betty Haskins checked records, and said superintendent recalls no Shupe marker).

Barney's sister, Mary Ann, married Henry Weitemeier and they were living in Hartford Township in Todd county, when Henry died 27 Nov 1903 at age 71. So maybe Barney is buried in a Weitemeier plot in a local cemetery?

                  Fishers, Indeed.

Barney Shupe, returned from Fisher's Landing this week, reports the town submerged in water nearly up to the second story, and the citizens promenading the streets in skiffs and on barges. (Brainerd Tribune, 07 July 1877, p. 1, c. 6)

Mr. Geo. Evans has retired from the control of the Ottawa House, on Front street, Mr. B. Shupe again assuming charge. (Brainerd Tribune, 06 August 1881, p. 5, c. 2)

Mr. B. Shupe, who, in company with his son Johnny, is out on the Yellowstone, hunting buffalo, etc., sent home three fine black-tailed deer last week, and the Brainerd House boarders are feasting on venison this week. (Brainerd Tribune, 19 November 1881, p. 1, c. 6)

Now here is a very curious fact...

The death of a David Shupe, age 80, on Feb. 7, 1885 was recorded on line 39, page 15, book A of the Crow Wing county death records. Cause of death was kidney problems - no other information such as birthplace or parents was provided. This has to be the father of Barney Shupe - they were the only Shupes in the area.

A probate was started for "David D. Shupe", but no final decree was recorded.

There is no death notice in the Brainerd Dispatch.

There is no record of his burial at Evergreen, but Evergreen did not start to record burials at the time of the interment until the spring of 1885. There is no marker for anyone in the Shupe family plot except for William.
