Gene Kennedy, 78, of McCamey, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at his home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, in the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery with arrangements under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of McCamey.

Gene was born to E.B. and Jessie Calder Kennedy on May 7, 1933, in Waldrip, Texas. He was a Navy veteran, serving in the Korean conflict. He was a retired gas plant operator and a Baptist minister.

He is survived by two sons, Jimmy Kennedy and his wife, Tammy, and David Kennedy and his wife, Yolanda, all of Midland; four daughters, Jeanie Prather and her husband, Paul, of San Angelo, Tammy Darlene Kennedy of McCamey, Jackie Kennedy of Eastland and Hope Day and her husband, Shawn, of McCamey; one brother, Jessie Kennedy of Crane; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made to Compass Hospice, 1330 E. 8th St., Odessa, Texas 79763.
