Son of William Seymour Lynn and Lucinda "Lucy" Lynn.

Company H, 15th Virginia Cavalry, Payne's Brigade, Rosser's Division, Valley District, Dept. of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence: Brentsville, Prince William County; 17 years old; 5'11", light hair, light complexion, blue eyes.

Enlisted for the duration of the war during Sept., 1861 in Prince William County, he traveled 50 miles to rendezvous where he was mustered into Captain W.G. Brawner's Company Partisan Rangers, as a Private. This company subsequently became Company H, 15th Regiment Virginia Cavalry on 5/5/1864.
Present on all rolls until 11/8/1864 when the 15th Cavalry was merged into the 5th (Consolidated) Virginia Cavalry.
On 12/4/1864 Company H was disbanded, and about 50 members became Company H, Mosby's Rangers on 4/5/1865.
Paroled 4/27/1865 at Winchester, VA.

Postwar he lived with his family in Rock Hill, Stafford County, Virginia at least between 1880 and 1920. Married to Nannie Fontaine Alexander in 1875, they had five daughters: Beulah, Nannie Pochantas, Lelia L., Olivia Lucy, Elizabeth Alexander "Lizzie".

Attended 1905 Reunion of 43rd Regiment in Fredericksburg. Lived in Richmond in 1909.

Mosby's Cavalry Regiment, formerly the 43rd Battalion, was organized in December, 1864. The battalion was formed in June, 1863, with five companies, later increased to eight. The unit served behind Federal lines in Northern Virginia and was the most effective command of its kind. The enemy forces were never safe and the area became known as "Mosby's Confederacy".
