Second Company Richmond Howitzers and Second Lieutenant 38th Virginia Artillery Battalion.

He enlisted at Richmond in April of 1861, age 19. He was promoted after the Battle of Chancellorsville and again in 1864. He was Inspector on the staff of Colonel Hilary Jones. Captured 25 March 1865, he was held at Fort Delaware until 21 June 1865. After the war, he got married and settled in Richmond, working for the firm of D. N. Walker and Company.
