Anna Stacia Slama, daughter of Jan and Josefa Kuncova Slama was born in Tri Studne, Nove Mesto, Moravia, then part of the Austia-Hungary Empire. Her mother died in Moravia and her father then married Josefa Havlikova. Anna immigrated in 1878 with her father and step-mother, two brothers, three sisters, and one half-sister.

Anna married Joseph August Burda on October 8, 1881 in Wilber, Nebraska. They had five children.
