Emily M. Geibel, 90, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, formerly of Monroe Street and Home Avenue, Butler, died peacefully on Wednesday evening in her room in the skilled nursing facility at Concordia.
Born June 24, 1921, in Apollo, Pa., she was the daughter of William and Cora Mahood.
Mrs. Geibel was originally a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler for many years, and later while living on Home Avenue, she attended the St. Fidelis Parish in Meridian. Following her move to Cabot in 2003, she attended the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cabot.
She was a January 1939 graduate of Butler High School, and she was an active member of the class reunion committee for many years. She retired from the Pennsylvania Office of Employment Security in Butler where she worked for many years.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, she served in the Women's Army Corps with overseas duty in New Guinea and the Philippines in 1943.
Her husband of 64 years, Arthur C. Geibel, who she married on May 29, 1941, preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2005.
She is survived by one sister, Gladys Whitesell of Butler; two sons, Conrad C. Geibel and his wife, Marian, and Lawrence M. Geibel and his wife, Monita, all of Butler; a daughter, Mary Lou Fischer of Taylorsville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
GEIBEL - Friends of Emily M. Geibel, who died on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Mark Carter will officiate. Entombment with military honors will follow in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
