Greenbush – Richard Comins, 90, Civil War veteran residing in Greenbush, passed away Thursday at his home. Deceased celebrated his 90th birthday last may. Mr. Comins was born May 17, 1849, in Jefferson County, New York, and enlisted for war service there on Dec. 3, 1863, serving in Company M, Second Veterans' New York Cavalry. He participated in the Red River campaign and was a prisoner in Taylor prison in Texas from Jan. 25, 1865 to May 25, when he was exchanged.
He came to Greenbush in 1868 and had resided in Sheboygan County since. Since the death of his wife in 1913, a daughter, Mrs. Emma Conger, has been her father's constant helper, assisted by his granddaughter, Bernice Comins. He has resided just outside the village limits for many years. He was an honored member of the Greenbush I.O.O.F. Lodge, the VFW and the GAR post.
Survivors are three sons, and three daughters, Eli and Mrs. Edward Price, both of Greenbush, Mrs. Emma Conger and Mrs. Alice Titel, on the homestead, Guy of the state of Washington, and James of Coleman, Wis., 20 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Phippin of Plymouth, and a brother, Perley of Washington, DC. His wife, a son and a daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Wittkopp Funeral Home, Plymouth, the Rev. R. L. Green, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church here, officiating, with interment in the Greenbush Cemetery.
