Ray Strickler was born December 20, 1876 at Camp Point, Illinois. He was the son of David and Susan (Ross) Strickler. He married Laura Ashbrook, daughter of George C. and Kit (Wood) Ashbrook on December 25, 1904. The couple had one daughter, Margaret.
He was a member of the Christian Church in Skidmore and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He was a talented carpenter and was the editor/publisher of the Skidmore New Era newspaper from its first issue in 1905 through the October 8, 1908 edition.
