DEATH STRIKES D.J. HAMMON AT HOME IN ROY

D. J. (Jed) Hammon, aged 72, prominent farmer of Roy, who was one of the first white children born in Weber county, died this morning at 7:20 o'clock at his home after an illness of one week. He was born in Uintah October 14, 1859, a son of Levi and Polly Bybee Hammon.

SERVED AS LAWMAKER
Mr. Hammon had taken a prominent part in the religious and civic activities in the communities in which he lived. He served one term in the 17th Utah legislature (1927) and was a deputy state agricultural inspector for four years. At the time of his death and for many years he had been sexton at the Roy Cemetery. He was one of the incorporators of Preston, Idaho, and had been a commissioner of Franklin county. He was also bishop of the Preston Ward for some time. He had served two missions for the LDS Church and was a member of the Weber Stake high priests quorum at the time of his death. For the past 26 years he had resided in Roy.

Surviving are his widow, Annie Hansen Hammon, and the following sons and daughters; D. J. Hammon, Jr., of Roy; Mrs. V.J. Crossley, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Loren Talbot of Roy; Mrs. Merlin Lee, Ogden; Heber G. Hammon, Roy; 11 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Luann Manning, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Alice Hanny, and Jonathan Hammon of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Mrs. Lucien Belnap of Ogden.

FUNERAL DETAILS
Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Roy Ward chapel with Bishop Orson T. Berrett presiding. Friends may call at the Larkin & Sons drawing room Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday until 4 o'clock. The body may be viewed at the home in Roy Monday evening and Tuesday until 1 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Roy Cemetery. Flowers left at Larkin's until 9:30 Tuesday morning will be taken to the home.

Largely attended services were held Tuesday afternoon for D.J. (Jed) Hammon in the Roy chapel with Bishop Orson T. Berrett presiding. The invocation was given by Joseph Patterson and the benediction by Joseph Weston. The singers were Thelma Bybee, Norma Weston, Guy Child, Renelda Thompson and Ruth Robinson. The speakers were Bishop Thomas Holland, Bishop E.S. Green, Bishop A.M. Hammon and Bishop Berrett. Interment was made in the Roy Cemetery, Chauncey J. Garner dedicated the grave. Members of the high priests quorum acted as pallbearers and members of the Relief Society took charge of the many floral offerings.
