A graveside service for Oscar W. "Bill" Helvey of McMinnville will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Summerville Cemetery, La Grande, with the Rev. Erwin Smutz officiating.
Mr. Helvey died May 11, 1999, in Oakwood Country Place, McMinnville. He was 95.
He was born Sept. 30, 1903, in Saratoga, Wyo., the son of Robert and Effie Cantonwine Helvey. He moved from Colorado to La Grande in 1919.
He and Ruth Wright were married Nov. 8, 1924, in La Grande.
Mr. Helvey lived until 1948 in La Grande, where he was in the grocery business. He then moved to western Oregon, California and Washington. He later settled in Amity. He had worked as an electrician for several companies.
He enjoyed the outdoors and liked fishing and hunting. He spent several winters in desert areas. He belonged to Amity Church of Christ.
He is survived by a niece, Carol Counsell of Tigard, and many other nieces and nephews.
