Johann Karl Schleicher was born the 22 March 1891 in Rengersfeld, Hessen, Germany, son of Peter Schleicher JR. and Katharina Romeis.
He married Lina Katherina "Berta" Knuettel on August 21, 1921 in Gersfeld, Hessen, Germany. Together they had three children, Lina (my mother), Theo and George Schleicher.
Grandpa was carpender by trade. He build two houses, the latter where he raised his children and spend most of his life.
I remember him as a strict and stern man, but helpful to all who needed help.
He worked hard and was a veteran of WWI. He was an active member of the German Red Cross for 40 years. He also helped hang the bell in the Lutheran Church in town.
He passed on Oct. 9, 1971 at the age of 80 years due to pneumonia.
