Wreck Kills Two Longmont Teenagers: Boy, Girl Die When Auto Hits Truck

"Two Longmont teenagers were killed when the car in which they were riding slammed into the rear of a parked truck loaded with stone on West Ninth Avenue. Police identified the victims as Virginia Lee Bressette, 18, of 1501 Hilltop Drive and Charles Cody Cantonwine, 17, of 27 East Fifth Ave. Both were pronounced dead at the scene of head injuries. . . . Cantonwine, who was born in Longmont Jan. 11, 1955, attended Longmont elementary and high schools and had been employed as a dry wall worker. He is survived by three brothers . . . and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Cantonwine of 17 East Fifth Ave. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Howe Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Dale McCann officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery. . . "

Charles Cody Cantonwine was the son of David Milton and Geneva M. (Winnett) Cantonwine, the grandson of Milton and Melba Azula (Neer) Cantonwine, the great-grandson of Robert Martin & Melissa A. (Sharpe) Cantonwine, the great-great-grandson of Abraham & Elizabeth (White) Cantonwine, and the g.g.g.grandson of Charles and Mary Magdalena (Scholl) Cantonwine.

Charles, the patriarch of the Cantonwine family, immigrated to America from Prussia in 1806, arriving in Philadelphia, Penn., aboard the ship Orlando. The ship's passenger list shows "Chr. Kuntentwine, single man." The name Kuntentwine later evolved to Cantonwine, and Charles appears to be the only surnamed Kuntentwine/Cantonwine to immigrate to America. Eight or so years after his arrival in Philadelphia, in about 1814, Charles married Mary Magdalena Scholl, daughter of Charles Jacob & Margaret (Fuhr) Scholl, in Bedford county, Pennsylvania.
