Birth: Jun. 26, 1827
Woodbury
Bedford County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Sep. 1, 1906
Longmont
Boulder County
Colorado, USA

Abraham was the tenth of twelve children born to Charles and Mary Magdalena (Scholl) Cantonwine: Michael, Jacob, Margaret, Charles, Catherine, David "Doc", George, Mary, John, Abraham, Samuel, and Syphronia. Only the last child has not been documented.

Charles, the patriarch of the Cantonwine family, immigrated to America from Prussia in 1806, arriving in Philadelphia, Penn., aboard the ship Orlando. The ship's passenger list shows 'Chr. Kuntentwine, single man." The name Kuntentwine later evolved to Cantonwine, and Charles appears to be the only surnamed Kuntentwine/ Cantonwine to immigrate to America. Eight or so years after his arrival in Philadelphia, in about 1814, Charles married Mary Magdalena Scholl, daughter of Charles Jacob & Margaret (Fuhr) Scholl, in Bedford county, Pennsylvania.

In 1849 Abraham married Elizabeth White, daughter of John J. and Sarah (Deets) White. Elizabeth, who died while visiting Cantonwine relatives in Nathrop, Colorado, is buried in the Centerville Cemetery near where they were living.
