Former Alaska resident Orlie "Buck" Lee Ennes, 68, died of a stroke Jan. 13 at his home in Truth or Consequences, N.M. A graveside service was held at Garfield Cemetery in Garfield, N.M.
Mr. Ennes was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Artesia, N.M., the son of Ory and Edna Ennes, and grew up in New Mexico. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Ennes moved to Alaska and lived on and off here since 1950. He resided in Fairbanks, then in Anchorage from 1973 to 1975, and in Cooper Landing from 1975 to 1985. After retiring in 1985 as a power lineman for Chugach Electric Association, Mr. Ennes spent time traveling and visiting with his children and grandchildren. He would return to Alaska during the summers and lived in New Mexico during the winters. He returned to Truth or Consequences in 1987. Mr. Ennes also was a commercial fisherman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing with his grandchildren and touring the states in his motor home. He was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, National Rifle Association, Moose Lodge 1547 and Disabled American Veterans. He was of the Baptist faith. He single-handedly raised five children, loved all children and lived for visits with his own grandkids, his family said. He was a special person, very playful and quite a character. He will be and is missed immensely by all who knew him.
Survivors include his two sons, Orrie and Orville of Seward; three daughters, Arlene Erickson of North Pole, Lillian of Eagle River, and Mary Nelsen of Seward; sister, Frankie Douglas of Washington state; and 10 grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by French Mortuary in Truth or Consequences.
