Theresa Horvat, Fairburn, Georgia, died Monday, January 10, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 73. Mrs. Horvat was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and graduated from Lillis High School. For those who knew Theresa Horvat, it's easy to see how her caring smile and generous nature affected so many people. At a time in her life when many people would be anticipating retirement and relaxation, Theresa began a career that lasted over 20 years, one that she referred to as her "social life" rather than her job. Following the untimely death of her husband Joe in 1981, Mrs. Horvat thought that it would be fun to apply for a job at a new Po' Folks Restaurant and for the next 23 years, the many customers and coworkers she met became like a second family to her.
Theresa's goodwill was especially known through her baking and cake decorating skills, and it was not unusual for her to bake cakes and pies into the wee hours for family and friends. She was a member and past president of the Old Campbell County Women's Club, and member of St. George Catholic Church in Newnan, GA. She loved music and was talented on both the piano and organ. Even as her illness progressed, she made efforts to ensure that the numerous people she looked after were cared for. As so many of her friends and family can attest, the world is truly a better place because of the kindness and generosity of Theresa Horvat.
Mrs Horvat was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Joseph Horvat, son Frank Horvat, and twin infant daughters Mary and Marie Horvat. She is survived by her sister, Agnes Moore, Kansas City, KS; many nieces and nephews; her children, Linda Bradley, Mandeville, Louisiana, Jim (Lori) Horvat, Marietta, GA, Tom (Johnna) Horvat, Sharpsburg, GA, and Jeanette (Ralph) Whitfield, Union City, GA; grandchildren, Nathan and Noel Bradley, Erica Horvat, Lena Whitfield, Austin and Lauren Horvat; and great-grandchild, Nora Bradley.
