Duane Grulke, formerly of Avoca, Ia. passed away Saturday, May 19, 2007. He was 63 years old at the time of his death.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avoca. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Avoca. Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca was in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by a cousin, Rev. William Weary of Pennsylvania.

Duane Grulke Sr. was born February 24, 1916. He attended the University of Iowa. He became a dentist. In 1942 while in the service during World War II, he was stationed in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he met and married Delores Morris of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1942. She died in childbirth August 23, 1943. (Assuming this was at the birth of Duane Jr.) Duane Sr. spent eighteen months overseas, and when he returned to the U.S., he and Duane Jr. who was then 2.5 years old returned to Avoca. They made their home with Duane Sr.'s mother Lula Grulke, and Duane Sr. began the practice of dentistry. He was with Dr. Anderson for a time and then set up his own office. On June 24, 1951, Duane Sr. married Charlene Lester. Duane Sr. and Charlene had a son Keith born October 29, 1954 who died January 24, 1991.
At the time of the writing of the Avoca book in 1994, it said that Duane Jr. was living in Nishna Cottage in Malvern, Iowa. His death certificate lists his place of death as the Clarinda Mental Health Institute.
