|Birth: ||Aug. 16, 1813|
|Death: ||Jan. 19, 1901|
Son of David Dewey and Anna Morse.
1) Charlotte C. Rann, whom he married on Jan. 10, 1843 in Poultney, Rutland, VT. According to his obituary, he had four known children: Lucia B (b. 1844), Elizabeth (b. 1846), Caroline (b. 1848), and Catherine Charlotte Dewey, all of whom grew to adulthood and married. But this does not coincide with the census records, 1850-1900, where there is no record of Caroline.
2) Emily Gatter, whom he married about 1854.

"Died in East Poultney on January 10, Zebadiah Dewey one of the oldest residents of the town. He was born in Poultney, August 16, 1813, was one of the twelve children of Dr. David and Anna Dewey. The Dewey history of Poultney begins with the settlement of the town and this branch is the direct descendants of Major Zebadiah Dewey. Major Dewey was the father of ten children and these are their names: Thomas, Zebadiah, Beulah, Charlotte, Anna, Artemesia, Azariah, Jonathan, Keziah and David. All grew up and were married, many of whom had large families. Two of those above named have descendants still with us that of Azariah and David. Azariah married Amelia Smith and they had three children, Solomon J, Archibald, and Abigail. Solomon married Charlotte Finel and had four children, Edwin S, Oscar, Albert and Solomon. His first wife died and he married for his second wife, Louise Darby, who is the mother of J. Randolph, Henry and Eliza (twins) and James M. His wife died Oct. 3, 1851. For his second wife he married Emily Gatter of New York city who survives him. Mr. Dewey was an industrious man but never succeeded in piling up much wealth. He was honest and respected and lived to a good old age. The remaining three children of Dr. Dewey were Thomas D., who married three times and who died October 18, 1809, Laura who married William Young and Harriet who married James W. King. Dr. David Dewey died October 2, 1841 in the 64th year of his age and his wife the mother of the twelve children lived to be nearly 97 years old. The funeral of Zebadiah Dewey was held Monday from his old home in East Poultney.

Note: There is a discrepancy between Zebadiah's date of death on his death record (Jan. 19, 1901) and his tombstone (1900). The 1900 Census shows that he was still alive in June, so the 1901 date is correct.
