Linda was my best friend for many years in school. She played the tuba and I played tenor sax in the band, we went to the same church and church camp at Magnetic Springs, Ohio, so we saw each other six or seven days a week. Church camp was a week long, so we had plenty of time together.
Occasionally (well usually) we skipped a meeting at church retreats. Sometimes we'd find a movie theater and watch a movie. Once we were walking around and found a dog who looked lost and she said "do you have a friend named Judy who got you lost too". I had more sense of direction than she did. We got back safely and on time. Then there were the University of Michigan games we went to with the band. Well, don't get me near a bookstore.... we did some shopping.
Needless to say, she and I laughed a lot when we were together. We made many pizzas together. In the early 1960s parents didn't like pizza so we'd pile on all the stuff we could just to be a little more rebellious. Today kids pick off onions and other things we loved. We'd smoke cigarettes behind the school (which in the early 60s was a real crime - LOL).
Recently, I've been thinking about other good times we had. One winter day, Linda and I took a spin (literally) in her parents' early 1960's pink and white Dodge with push button transmission. Today it would be called a land yacht. We didn't get too far and we did the spin on some ice. For a couple of 16-year-olds, we thought that was pretty cool. No damages or injuries.
After years of diabetes problems in which she had a foot, then later the leg on that side removed to the knee and toes on her other foot removed, she was diagnosed with liver cancer. She died later that year. She is greatly missed.
Thankfully I was working part time when she was ill and was able to visit her several times a week. She finally accepted the fact that she was going to die. She was a very kind-hearted person and wouldn't have hurt anyone on purpose. I'm so blessed to have had her as a best friend.

Hi BFF. Sorry I've been so slow at getting to you. Our step grandson died and we are inundated with nurses, aides, case workers, etc. I'm about to run away.|
