STEPHEN D. CRITES, Elida banker, former state senator and school superintendent died September 10 after an illness of seven weeks.

CRITES was born in American-tp, Allen-co., November 28, 1847, the son of JACOB and MARY
CRITES.

At the age of 18 he began teaching school and earned enough money to attend the National Normal University at Lebanon. He was superintendent of the Elida public schools from 1870 to 1882; State Senator for the 32nd
District for four years beginning in 1901. Since the expiration of his term
as senator he has devoted his time to the Farmers' Bank of Elida, of which he was organizer and president, and to farming and the raising, buying and shipping of stock.

He is survived by his widow, and four daughters, Mrs. S. O. MORRIS and Mrs. PHIL SCHNABEL, both of Lima, Mrs. A. BRENNEMAN, of Elida, and Mrs. W. L. HOOK, of Tiffin.Three brothers, D. H. CRITES, W. Elm????, C. D. CRITES, of Los Angeles, and O. B. CRITES, residing near Lima, are also left.

Funeral will be at the Elida M. E. church, Rev. BOROFF officiating; burial in Greenlawn cemetery.
