C. Arthur Johnson, a native and life-long resident of Troy and the town's druggest for nearly 40 years, died of cancer early Sunday morning at Gritman Memorial Hospital at Moscow, where he had been a patient since October. He was 63.

Johnson was active at Troy and in Latah County as a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Troy for 14 years, a one-time chairman of the Latah County Republican Committee, and a Troy fireman for more than 40 years. he had also served as president of the Latah County Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Troy School board for six years. he was a pharmacist at the Johnson Drug Store, which he purchased in 1943, at Troy.

Johnson's parents Carl and Augusta, emigrated from Sweden to Troy in 1913. he was born on June 11, 1914, the third of four sons.

While at Troy High School he worked part-time at the drug store. In 1936, he graduated from Washington State University with a pharmacy degree.

On June 22, 1940, he married Ruth Erickson at Troy. She survives at their Troy home.

Johnson was a member of the Troy Lutheran Church, the Troy Lions Club, the Lutheran Campus Council at WSU and the University of Idaho for 20 years, and the Latah and Whitman county Pharmaceutical association. He also occasionally filled the pulpit at the Troy Lutheran Church in absenc of the pastor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James of Spokane; hree daughters, Marie Abbott of Everett, Wash., Gloria Johnson of Moscow, and Karen Skomp of Troy; two brothers, Kenneth of Palouse and Oscar of Troy. One brother, John, preceded him in death. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

A service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Troy Lutheran Church. The Ref. Marlow Engberg of the Moscow Emmanuel Lutheran Church will preside, and burial will follow at the Dry Creek Cemetery at Troy.
