Birth: Jul. 29, 1947
Christian County
Illinois, USA
Death: unknown

born: Dixon, Illinois.
"Lonnie", - was often a bit of a problem for everyone who knew him. why? he never "fit in" to this world; he never, in fact, liked what he saw of the world and its ways, and never accomplished much, actually, until he found Jesus as not just Savior, ... but as personal LORD as well. Then he was blest to find his right, God-sent soulmate & helpmate in life: Lynne Suzanne Young-Hummel. - they were married (she widowed, him divorced, on biblical grounds of adultery & abandonment) - they were married at 'The Jesus Chapel' on the grounds of Canaan in the Desert, October 1st, 1988. Phoenix-Scottsdale, Arizona.
Lonnie (or Len as most knew him in later life) was a problematic child. a drifter who never settled into any kind of lasting employment until he landed a job with American Express at their Western Regional Office in Phoenix, Arizona. This was around 1980. he worked there almost ten years and excelled as a credit adjuster and fraud inspector of AMEX credit card accounts. it was a very stressful type of job, but it paid the rent and then some.
Going back a bit: Lonnie loved to play chess, basketball, football, golf, swimming and wrestling. he excelled especially at football as a linebacker. but at "socializing" he preferred being alone, trusting next to know one in life. - this was, to be honest, no one's fault in particular, ... only the reality of his life in this broken [and pretty crazy & sometimes cruel] world.
Lonnie (later to be known as "Len" or "Lennie") fell in love with poetry and philosophy at around age 19. before that: he was "a little crazy" about researching paranormal pheneomena and "the UFO mystery" which he researched extensively in high school and early college years. [even presenting visual lectures on the subject at Rotary and Lion's Clubs and other public venues]

This is much, perhaps, we could say about Lonnie's half a dozen (and serious) nervous breakdowns: but we will limit all that to just two main observations: he survived them, stronger than before; and: his last breakdown was in the Spring of 1979; he has never had a relapse since finding Jesus FOR REAL as LORD and not just Savior or merely as "a religious-thing". GOD's grace and protection.

He worked "a few" jobs here and there: here's a partial list: Hummel's Meat Market & Locker Plant (teen & pre-teen years, ... did whatever dad "thought I could handle")! pin-setter for Golden Bowling Lanes (hated it); bailing hay (summer work); bus-boy, Lincoln Manor, Dixon, IL.; waiter at Eddie's Place (Family Restaurant); short order cook and dishwasher: Davis Drive Inn and also at a McDonald's; factory work: Central Stamping, Polo, IL.{hell-on-earth}; factory work: Cable & Wire company {again: hell-on-earth}; data-processor:Micro Switch, Freeport, IL.; Circle K cashier; Dixon State School for the mentally retarded (a very worthwhile job); stock-boy in Liquor Store, DeKalb, IL.; insurance adjuster, U.S.F.& G. Insurance Company, out of Dixon, Illinois office [including new company car]; twice a shoe salesman: Kline's Dept Store in Dixon, and also at a Mall in Sterling, IL.; book store clerk: at Northern Illinois University; house painter and roofing worker [good, honest work]; cashier, Westland Meats in Mall, Hialeah, Florida; guard at same Mall in Hialeah; salesman for Chandeliers & Lighting Fixtures store, Miami; short-order cook at fast food joint on Lincoln Mall, Miami Beach; store clerk: Colonial Bookstore, Miami Beach North; night manager: Doubleday Bookstore, South Miami Beach {where he met his very special jewish girlfriend, Rochelle, who loved him totally & desperately to her dying breath}; the Miami Herald newspaper, in/on the factory Printing Press stacking line" [another hell-on-earth job]; telemarketing sales with Armstrong Industries (a semi-rip-off, fly-by-night outfit) in Miami Beach, near Lincoln Road; American Express credit authorizier: 1980-1988; and a few home-health-care jobs in & around Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, AZ. ... worked in full time missionary ministry since 1988 - 2011+. pastored "The Jesus Praise & Worship Center" from 1994-2006. {an inner-city ministry which also featured a large children's feeding program and family assistance program in the inner city of Cebu City, central Philippines. [whew! - all that in just one breath! ... :^)...]

Len & his wife Lynne worked as missionaries in Cebu until their semi-retirement in 2011. They continued to minister in homes and in publishing many tracts and booklet which they have written and printed for churches all over the Philippines and parts of Asia. To mention only a few: GRACE & OTHER POEMS; WISDOM FOR THE WISE; PRAYER POWER; PRAYER DEVOTIONALS; FACTS; THE MOMENT; TIME IS RUNNING OUT; the $100-tract; HOW TO MAKE HEAVEN YOUR HOME FOR ALL ETERNITY; and many more. ... some of their tracts and booklet were distribute all over Asia and the world. They had assistance from many local pastors, ... but especially from their close friend (and a businessman and insurance agent and manager) brother Jaime [Jimmy] Barba. - a true friend if ever there was one.

Now what would I want said about myself before I die and go to be with Jesus ? Well, first of all: {{{my epitaph: "FORGIVEN. SOON TO BE RISEN" sort of says it all.}}} ... along with that I might add that I lived life not so very wisely much of my life, ... but Jesus took note of the fact that I desperately NEEDED Him, ... and He drew me by His Spirit to Himself. - for which I will praise Him forever in Eternity. forever and ever and ever: He is worthy. i am nothing without Him. He deserves ALL of the glory & the honor.

My last words to anyone reading this is: the missing piece in Life's puzzle IS JESUS IN your heart. He is alive. He is REAL. He is THE ONLY Savior. ... and He always enters a broken and humbled heart. ... the proud go away empty, receiving nothing. - please, please, PLEASE don't let the latter be you. Believe Him; RECEIVE Him, ... His Hands are already extended.
Here is one of my favorite poems in closing . . .

~~~~ THE TEST ~~~~~
Please forgo the parade and charade of excuses.
He already KNOWS the Whole Truth
(So let's get honest):
What you need is forgiveness.
What you need is a new heart.
What you need is a Savior.
What you need is a fresh start.
The payment for sin, - for insulting and forgetting GOD,
- is high.
Very high.
You can pay it yourself
(and will)
If you turn away Him
Who was willing
to pay it Himself.
IT IS GRACE. Mercy, Grace, and Love.
You cannot earn it. (It is given).
with humility and eternal thanksgiving.
He will forgive the honest heart
that turns to Him with empty hands, saying,
"I receive, I am not worthy, but I receive and turn to Thee."
For a truth: Jesus suffered for YOUR sins,
How can your heart NOT break?
from a Supremely Wise GOD.
"The Cross of Christ is truly God's last and endless Word. There the Prince of this world is judged, there sin is killed, and pride and self-righteousness is done to death, there lust is frozen, and self-interest slaughtered, NOT ONE CAN GET THROUGH..."
A Thought Poem
(help for the hollow men)
Did you ever notice how everyone tries to "prove" how "right" they are about many things they do not actually know with real certainty. ?
Truly, this is mostly mere foolishness and vanity.
we know that we are mortal and we die.
we know we have this guilt and emptiness inside.
we are the hollow men. let's admit it.
and only women and children, … and GOD
seems capable of filling the deep, deep,
and unavoidable void.
We are the hollow men. searching for some meaning
and significance in a world gone mad
with self serving lust that utterly defiles all that it touches such that all that should Be is pitifully tarnished and twisted beyond recognition.
We are the hollow men. Who or What will change or transform this awful aching alienation?
We who secretly fear utter aloneness more than death.
What can be done for us?
TO WHOM shall we go?
Suddenly, a thought, - a hope beckons at a near yet transcendent distance:
A Thought, - A Voice:
"your Home, your Shalom was lost long ago
when you decided that your will would be your own god." – "that you would have a dream, - an existence outside of and apart from Me,"
said The EternaL One.
"Return to Me
And I Will fill your void
With Hope & Truth & Love & Reality:
For I AM
The Life, … The Way,
The Truth That Lives Forever."
all else, - all else is but a vain and passing shadow of flickering lights…and chasing after the wind…
Again He spoke, "you do not know (nor truly understand) what you think (or profess) you know
UNTIL you have come to a Knowledge of Me
Through surrender
To The only I AM.
"your" "i am" will not Be, but will cease
you find and rightly acknowledge Me."
said The LORD YahOvah-GOD.
"man without GOD is a vain, - a tragic and very foolish thing.
And so often: even the very religious miss Me,"
said The LORD.
A question for you now, my friend:
What will you do? What will you say? When GOD, - The Measure of all, -
The Moral Center and Sovereign of the Universe, - calls you to account?
will you strut your stuff? will you "mightily defend" yourself? and then tell Him "how worthy" you truly are." ?
Truly, will you even DARE to open your mouth before Him. ?
Pure, Radiant, unblemished Righteousness:
No pretense. No shadows. No excuses.
In THAT awesome Moment: will you have an Advocate to exonerate? …… or a prosecutor to convict and condemn? … which will it be ?
Which will it be?
Long ago, The Perfect Victim and Substitute said, (speaking to all)
"no one comes to [is reconciled to] The Father
EXCEPT BY ME." … no one.
Please understand the truth:
you don't appeal to "your own" "innocence"
or "righteousness" or "your" "goodness."
not at all.
you are a hollow man (with many excuses), …
And yet JESUS says, "Come unto Me." …
… and then He leaves the choice to you.
What will you do? What is your answer?
your heart, … your very soul must give the answer.
And He will then perfectly
and righteously
Judge accordingly.
His Will, His choice, … and your choice.
Choose wisely.
and a final thought, entitled "every life" ...
Every life above the animal or the simple mere-ness of "exist" and nonexist
strives, - some poorly, some mightily, … some desperately
and some ruthlessly
to leave behind a memory and impact
that does not vanish like a morning mist, or a voice
that fades as a lonely cry in a distant & desolate canyon . . .
most live life without awareness or significance
except to add to the world's sorrow, brutality, and vanity.
Why is this? Why? this seeming incapacity
to think, inquire,
to see beyond the mere grasp of the moment ?
Why? so many weeds and tares, ?
so little wheat, ? … and even less fruit
without the rot of pride or arrogance or vanity, ? … why ? why ???
When and how does a man or woman become human
and something truly above the animal. ? … UNDERSTAND:
Something must stir, - must awaken deep within:
to connect with a noble longing and desire…
"i am more and meant to be more than this crazy,
maddening, vain and utterly earthbound life."
"i would sing with the stars and soar with the eagle."
"i would be and do all i can to make this world a better place for body & soul, … then lay me down to rest in Jesus, Who in Himself
made the way
back to GOD and Paradise.
... I love You, Jesus. - that is my final word.
