|Birth: ||Mar. 11, 1826|
|Death: ||Jun. 20, 1899|
West Virginia, USA
The son of George C. Bailey and Frances Thompson Bailey, he grew up on a farm where Montcalm, West Virginia now stands.
Brother of Jonathan S. Bailey, Council Walker Bailey, Nancy D. Bailey Walker, Burrell B. Bailey, Charlotte Temple (Bailey) Bailey, and Catherine T. (Bailey) Bailey.
The farm where he raised a family adjoined the one of his father; real estate value in 1860 entered on census record as 1500 dollars. He may have been a constable at some period circa 1850.
He was described by former generations as being tall and red-haired.
Married to Mary Fain, he fathered four children. She is named on the death records of her sons. A marriage entry for 2 September 1858 is included in marriage records for Pike county, Kentucky.
His name is in the (online) roster for the 151st Militia Regiment, Company D (Capt., John E. Hall) and listed as a Private. Eight others of his relations by the same surname are in this listing.
The following, from 'Tears on the Bluestone' (by Arnold H. Hurd III, © 2007):
BAILEY, Thompson P. - Private, Company D, listed as Thompson Baily, enlisted on 8/21/1861 at Princeton, [West] Virginia - 1860 MCC, age 34, farmer, married to Nancy J., age 20. Born 3/11/1826. Son of George C. Bailey and Frances Thompson Bailey. Enlisted on 4/21/1863 in Company D, 17th Virginia Calvary. Wounded at Winchester on 6/15/1863. Paroled at Charleston, West Virginia on 6/23/1865,age 42. Married to Isabel Elizabeth Bailey Minor, daughter of Samuel Bailey, and the widow of Thompson Minor -who was killed in 1864 [see Roster]. Listed on the 1870 Census of Mercer County West Virginia, Rock Township, age 46, farmer, married to Elizabeth, age 40. [Five children named Bailey, five children named Minor]. Enumerated on the 1880 Census of Mercer County West Virginia, Rock district, age 56, farmer, married to Elizabeth, age 57. Died on 6/20/1899.
Thompson survived the war, with his life thoroughly changed and having lost several members of his family. His real estate value was nearly halved in 1870, to 900 dollars. This census has his household as #84, two removed from that of Addison and Octavia Bailey.
His age often fluctuates on these records.
[A note by Kyle McCormick, editor of works by Robert Williams of England, indicated that the family never knew what happened to Thompson's brother, Council, who was killed in action at Richmond, Virginia.]
His brother Jonathan died in a POW camp in Maryland.
George, Thompson and Council are mentioned in Williams' writings.
Thompson and Burrel gave oath and bond for the administration of their father's will, on behalf of their mother.
The marriage to Isabel Elizabeth was in the late autumn following the death of his father, on 27 November 1866, in Mercer county, performed by Joseph Wright. Daughters Mary Virginia and Arminta were of this marriage; he was informant for birth of Mary.
Thompson outlived Elizabeth by just a few weeks.

In an effort to point out that the former GPS map was showing the King cemetery to be at Rock, when it should have shown as between Montcalm and Duhring, an Edit was sent - but, someone has changed the town to Princeton, which is even further from the location.
There are several King cemeteries - Thompson and Elizabeth are interred at Montcalm/Duhring beside each other; by all previous transcriptions and family histories, and the graveyard should be above the river on private property; unknown if access is possible. I believe the Nancy Bailey in the original transcriptions is most likely the first wife of Thompson (Mary Jane "Nancy" Fain Bailey).
The new GPS map shows the approximate location.
