A Middletown teen who died in a fire early Thursday morning that swept through three borough homes succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning, officials said yesterday.
An autopsy performed yesterday showed Perry B. Roberson, 18, of the 1200 block of Vine Street, died of smoke inhalation shortly after the 4: 16 a.m. blaze began, said Dauphin County Coroner Graham S. Hetrick.
Rescuers discovered Roberson's body in a rear second-story bedroom at 115 Brown Street, where the fire began, at 9 a.m., hours after the blaze was extinguished.
Firefighters were stunned, having believed everyone had escaped.
Authorities have labeled the fire as suspicious because no one informed firefighting crews that Roberson had not escaped. A state police fire marshal and borough officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
