'SMILING STEVE IN FINAL HARBOR'
Well Known River Man and Show Boat Operator Dies After Operation
Captain Steve E. Price, 42, 406 Monroe avenue, pilot and veteran showboat man, and son of Edward A. Price, 80, himself a pioneer showboat man, died at a local hospital at 5:20 o'clock yesterday morning following an operation.
Price was known only as "Smiling Steve" to thousands of persons in towns along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. For almost 35 years, Price and his father took their showboats each spring up and down the rivers.
The elder Price at one time owned and operated some of the largest theater boats. Included in this group were French's New Sensation, Greater New York Floating Theater, Price's Water Queen, and the New Era. He recently sold a boat, The Columbia, to Merke Brothers in the East.
Surviving are the father and mother, and the widow, Olive. The body will lie in state at the Klee and Burkhart funeral chapel until tomorrow. At this time the body will be taken to Newport, Ky, for burial.

For about three years prior to death, Steve was treated for pyonephrosis & calculous urethral. His secondary COD was septicemia, streptococcus viridans per his death certificate.
