Nora Ruanna Dallmann was born on Christmas Day 1908 in Edgeley, ND. Her arrival was an especially joyous gift for her parents, Otto and Helena (Mueller) Dallmann, who mourned the loss of their first-born daughter earlier that year. In 1914, Nora's family took advantage of the Homestead Act of 1908 and moved to Winifred, Montana to homestead. During their time in Montana, Nora's mother died, leaving her father to raise her and 6 siblings. Without adequate income from farming and the loss of Nora's mother, her father moved the family back to Edgeley in 1926 by sneaking the children on a railroad car along with their horses and covered wagon.

Nora married Lee Waldo Burkhart on September 4, 1928 in Hunter, ND. They divorced in 1949. Nora took various jobs in Casselton to help support her family - housekeeper, hair dresser, and babysitter. She also worked for her sister, Pauline, at the Hawley Bakery. In 1967, she took a job housekeeping for Art and Ed Mattson on their farm outside of Leonard, ND until she retired in 1984. She was a stalwart woman, resolute, yet game for anything. These were traits that helped her raise 9 children on her own. She loved dancing, music and her harmonica. And she loved Lawrence Welk. Nora loved game shows, bingo and bowling. She also had her 15-minutes of fame playing her harmonica on WDAY?s "Party Line." She was always on the go, especially once she learned to drive at age 58 by delivering lunches to the farm hands in the field.

She will be remembered for her homemaking skills, her sense of humor, her deep commitment to her country and God, for King's Korners, and her home made ice cream. Nora moved to Villa Maria Nursing Home in 2001.

Nora was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers, son-in-laws Archie Sauvageau (Clara) and Leonard Muellenbach (Inez) and daughter-in-law Rosemary Burkhart (Neil) and grandchild Melissa Burkhart.
