HORICON ‑ Merlin C. Johns, 86, of 713 Horicon St., Horicon, died on Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon. The Rev. Daniel Seehafer will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Horicon. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post 157.
Merlin was born on Oct. 20, 1920, in Beaver Dam, the son of Walter and Gladys (Octaberg) Johns. He was married to Lorraine H. Weber on July 17, 1948 at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.
Merlin was a 1938 graduate of Horicon High School. He retired from John Deere Co. in 1979. He was a member of St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon; a member of St. Stephen Usher Club, and a member of Horicon American Legion Post 157. Merlin was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Force. Merlin enjoyed his family and home.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, Horicon; three children, Gail (Jerry) Hartwig, Horicon, Larry (Sandy) Johns, Hickory, N.C., and Brenda (Jim) Gibbons, New Berlin; grandchildren, Nicole (Jim) Freeman, Cory Johns, Troy (Jenny) Johns, Michael Gibbons, Ryan Gibbons and Jamie Gibbons; three great‑grandchildren, Cody, Amber and Mason; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
